KANGA Productions and USA Triathlon are pleased to announce the USA Triathlon Elite Sprint National Championships, an exciting short-course, draft-legal race that will take place on Thursday, Sept. 11, at the Las Vegas Convention Center, in Las Vegas, Nev.

Contested in a super-sprint format under the lights outside the Las Vegas Convention Center, elite athletes will complete two continuous, non-stop circuits of the same course, each comprised of a 300-meter pool swim, 8k bike and 2.5k run to claim their share of a $70,000 prize purse.

This draft-legal race format is a platform for elite athletes to showcase their explosive speed, stamina and bike handling skills on a technical course while giving spectators the opportunity to see some of the world’s best professional triathletes race elbow-to-elbow in a self-contained venue.

The event, officially designated as the 2014 USA Triathlon Elite Sprint National Championships, will be televised nationally by Universal Sports Network on Oct. 1 at 8 p.m. ET.

Date Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014

• Draft-legal format
• Heats: 300m swim (1 lap) / 8k bike (7 laps) / 2.5k run (3 laps) – 1 time through
• Final: 300m swim (1 lap) / 8k bike (7 laps) / 2.5k run (3 laps) - 2 times through

Race Capacity
The invitation-only elite field, consisting of 30 men and 30 women, will compete for a total of $70,000 in prize money, more than double the amount awarded at this event in 2013. A $62,500 prize purse will be shared equally between the overall men’s and women’s fields, with the winners earning $10,000. The top 15 finishers will earn a portion of the overall prize purse. Additionally, $7,500 will be shared among the top three U.S. men and women for the Elite Sprint Nationals podium.

To be eligible for invitation, athletes must be a current USA Triathlon elite license holder or an international professional. A minimum of 50 percent of the field will be reserved for U.S. athletes, providing an opportunity for the nation’s emerging and Olympic-level triathletes to enhance draft-legal cycling skills and race tactics.

• International draft-legal rules will apply.
• Event briefing will be posted at draftlegalrules.com

Athletes may nominate for this event via ituentries@usatriathlon.org
